Winning performances by Lewes AC athletes
Representing Sussex in the under 20 Inter-County match Livvy Connor won both her events against tough competition from athletes from other Counties. On a very wet and windy Sunday Livvy won her pole vault event with a vault of 3.80m. Not content with this win Livvy then followed this up with a win in the 100m hurdles in a personal best time of 14,90secs.
Returning from a long lay off through injury 43 year old Chris Gilbert announced his return to competition with a fantastic win in the Henfield Half Marathon. In a time of 1.21.54 Chris showed his younger rivals he was truly back to form. Also having a great run was Sophie Wainwright who was 10th woman finisher in a time of 1.50.25
Also in winning form over the weekend was Sally Norris who was the first women home in the very tough Hove Hornets Stinger race over the Sussex Downs. With 280 runners testing themselves against the terrain, rain and wind Sally’s was 32nd overall and first women in a time of 42mins 52secs. Not far behind Sally was Helen Sida who was 3rd women finisher in a time of 45mins 16sec.
First for the Lewes AC men in the race was 52 year old Jonathon Burrell in 8th position overall in a time of 39mins 25secs. Also finishing in the top 20 was Andrew McLennan in 19th position in a time of 41.10. With 22 runners from Lewes AC in the race the total team score ensured that the Lewes club retained their 3rd position in the 18 club Fun Run league.
