Sussex T & F Champs
Thirty Seven Lewes athletes entered the Sussex track & field championships held over the weekend at Crawley between them Five club records broken, twenty four medals and many lifetime bests well done to all.
The first event of the weekend provided Lewes with a medal the Gold for Evan Carter in the U20M 400m Hurdles in a new pb 63.1.
This was closely followed by a second Gold this time for Livvy Connor in the U17W Triple Jump a new pb & club record 11.07m and at 15 became only the 11th Sussex female to jump over 11m.
Next the normal clutch of medals from the Pole Vault started with Sam Brown winning the senior title with 4.40m, James Shackleton added the U20m Gold clearing 3.80m and Remi McDonald the Bronze with 3.50m.
Hannah McDonald claimed the Bronze medal in the U20W Vault with a new pb of 3.00m the English schools qualification height. Livvy Connor set a new outdoor pb of 3.36m to take the U17W Vault Gold and had two close attempts at the championship record 3.52m.
In the U15G Pole Vault Polly Saunders equalled her pb of 2.50m to take Silver from Millie Hemsley who also cleared 2.50m a new pb for bronze. Luca Bish also equalled his bests clearing 2.30m in the U15B vault for Bronze with Jack Harris still U13 taking the U15 B Silver with an outdoor pb and club record of 2.80m.
Luca Bish followed his Vault success with a new pb in the High Jump 1.55m taking Silver, Will Judd_Page also cleared a pb of 1.50m to take U15B High Jump Bronze.
Scott Staples U15B set a new best in the Javelin of 42.34m for Gold just short of English Schools qual mark of 43m.
Sam Jackson U17M cleared 1.55m for Bronze in the High Jump.
Matt Grant U20M putt the shot 14.25m for a new club record and the Gold medal and followed this with a pb in the discus of 36.07m and the Silver medal.
Luke Staples U17M threw a lifetime best of 47.16m in the Hammer and picked up the Silver medal.
Medals on the track with bigger entry numbers are harder to come by so great effort by Tim Caliafas U20M and Sam Rogers U15B, Tim who set a lifetime best in the 1500m of 4:16.5 giving him the Bronze and Sam also a lifetime best in the 1500m 4:34.9 for Silver and 800m 4th place 2:10.8
The final medal came in one of the last events the U15G 4 x 100m with Olivia Chadwick, Grace Salter, Millie Hemsley and Polly Saunders picking up the Bronze in a new club record of 53.1
