Sussex Masters Cross Country Championships, 21 January 2012
Lewes AC had a good day out at the Sussex Masters Cross Country Championships, run on Saturday in mild conditions over a strenuous course from Lancing all the way up to Cissbury Ring and back (or in the case of the men, up and back twice).
The women’s over-45 team came in fourth out of ten teams, with 43 position points – only 4 points behind Crawley. Maria Judd led the team, finishing 5th in the age group in 28:56, followed by Karin Divall (16th in age group, 32:55) and Paula Taylor (21st, 34:00).
The men’s over-50 team finished seventh out of ten teams. Team members were Andrew Chitty (18th in age group, 39:18), Gerard Dummett (20th, 39:27), Tim Monson (25th, 41:04), Tony Deacon (32nd, 43:14) and Toby Wolpe, who continued to the end despite suffering an injury on the course (43rd, 48:24).
The men’s over-60 team was unfortunately inquorate, but Bob Hughes and Alf Pollard ran fine individual races, finishing 12th and 15th in the age group in 44:37 and 46:09.
The day however belonged to Brighton and Hove Athletic Club, whose teams came first in six out of the seven men’s and women’s age group categories in a convincing display of superiority.
