Walkers do well at Steyning
Three Lewes AC junior athletes took part in the Steyning AC Open Race Walks at Horsham track on Saturday 14th December.
A mixed field of all ages started in cold damp conditions facing a strong wind. The near 30 competitors set a fast pace such that the Lewes AC walkers all did their best times.
Charlie Perry broke the 6 minute barrier for the 1k to win the u11 section followed a few minutes later by brother Harvey in the u15s 3k breaking the 21minute target set by his coach and taking nearly two minutes from his previous performance at Tonbridge three weeks ago. Harvey has recorded some good races including recently both walks and cross country.
Rosie Gaugham took part in her first u15 3k with a very fine effort to finish a few seconds outside 21minutes and over a minute quicker than her target.
Both Harvey and Rosie are in their first year as u15s but gained valuable experience amongst such a top class field which was won by Abegail Jennings of Aldershot an established UK junior international and who took Bronze in 2018 in the UK Senior 5k National Championship at Birmingham International Stadium.
Tomorrow ( 21st )at Lewes the Club hold their Open Winter 3k walk including 1k and 2k races starting at Noon…Novices and newcomers are welcome”
