Despite several forced withdrawals due to injury and circumstances, 12 Lewes AC turned out for a gruelling Phoenix 10k on Wednesday evening the 17th July. In the blazing evening sunshine with the temperature still around 23C there were some great performances. There were mixed fortunes for the Lewes AC team at Hastings on Saturday 20th July. With only two women being able to be part of the team it was left to the men to keep the show on the road. On the same day and evening as the Phoenix 10K Lewes AC had 10 younger athletes competing in the open event at Crawley. It must have been something in the air as the ten athletes achieved 12 life time bests in their events. This included a new club record for Sam Rogers who ran 2mins 07.20 for the under 15 boys 800 metres.

The evening of Wednesday 10th July saw the third and final match of the Sussex Vets League, held at our home track. The joint team of Lewes & Haywards Heath men went into this match as firm favourites for the league, having already won both the Eastbourne and Brighton matches. Two Lewes AC teams have finished top of their leagues in two age groups. The club’s young under 13 and under 15 athletes finished top of the UKA Youth Development League following a closely fought match at Hastings.
