National and Regional medals for Lewes AC young athletes.

Competing at National and Regional level a bundle of Lewes AC young athletes topped the medal tables and came away with many personal bests and great performances.

The first event was the South of England Athletics under 15 and under 17 Championships held at Lee Valley over the weekend of the 11th and 12th of August.

Emilie Oakden continued her fantastic season and cleared 3.00m in the U15 Girls pole vault to take the title and Gold medal. Emilie was joined on the podium by Amelia Hatchard who cleared 2.70m to take the Bronze medal. Taking the silver medal was another Lewes athlete Lucinda White who trains and competes for Lewes but in this championship event competed for Tonbridge AC. A brilliant 3.40m clearance by Ori Bartle in the under 15 boys Pole Vault not only gave Ori a 30 cm personal best clearance but won him the Bronze medal in the competition.

Chloe Kornevall competing in the under 17 women’s 400m race not only won the silver medal but broke the club’s record with a personal best time of 59.3. Lying forth at the final bend Chloe streaked down the home straight overtaking other runners to take the Silver medal.

Competing at the England Athletics under 15 and under 17 National Championships held at Bedford over the weekend of 25th & 26th August the club’s junior athletes again came away with some brilliant results.

Emilie Oakden was again in fantastic form in the under 15 Girls Pole Vault clearing every height first time including a massive clearance at 3.06m. Sadly that was her last height of the competition as she tweaked her hamstring making an attempt on a personal best and gold medal winning height of 3.16m and had to settle for the Silver medal.

Ori Bartle again raised his Pole Vault PB clearing 3.43m for 7th position in the U15B

Amelia Hatchard finished sixth on countback with 2.91m the same height as fourth. Mena Powell cleared 2.51m for 8th place

Hannah Russell, Charlotte Sida and Maddy Bullen all cleared 2.51m, Charlotte and Hannah sharing 10th place with Maddy in 13th, 2.51m being a personal best for all three athletes.

Hannah Russell’s performance was particularly outstanding considering that as an under 13 athlete she was competing up an age group and only had her twelve birthday a day before the championships. The 2.51m clearance takes Hannah to second on this year’s under 13 UK rankings and 16th on the UK all time lists.
