London Marathon Triumph for Dave and Mike
Mike Scholes a 58 year old runner with very little sight ran a fantastic 3hrs 14mins 48sec London Marathon guided by Dave Bradford from the Lewes Club. Dave who himself has Retinitis Pigmentosa an hereditary sight loss condition helped Mike thread his way through the mass of 37,000 runners to achieve a great time. At the half way mark Mike was on for a 3 hour marathon with a time of 1hr 30mins 40secs but just faded over the second half to finish in 51st position in his age category.
Whilst most of the Lewes AC marathon runners chose the Brighton Marathon this year three other Lewes runners braved the London and had some good results. Nick Parrish and Tony Shaw were locked together at the half marathon stage with only 5 seconds separating them. Nick reached the half way mark in 1hr 38mins 25secs and Tony just 5 seconds behind in 1hr 38mins 30secs. It was over the second half that Nick gradually pulled away finishing in great time of 3hrs 23mins 32sec finishing in the top 500 runners to Tony’s time of 3hrs 49mins 13secs.
Matt Oades also managed a great time finishing well under his 4 hour target in a time of 3hrs 56mins 58secs. Matt’s time at the half way mark was 1hr 56secs 48secs and well on course to achieve his aim. I’m told that Matt is so encouraged by his time that he has decided to keep up his training to run in the Berlin Marathon.
