Livvy Connor wins South East Schools inter-counties combined events championships

Lewes had two athletes selected to compete at the South East Region Inter County Schools combined events championships at K2 Crawley.

Livvy Connor in competition with the best 28 school athletes from the eight counties that make up the south east region won the gold medal and helped the Sussex County Intermediate Girls team to win the hepthalon event. Livvy started her competition with 12.3secs in the 80m hurdles the fastest time of the day then added 5cm to her high jump personal best clearing 1.59m. She followed this with another personal best in the shot putt with a putt of 7.83m and rounded off the first day by knocking 7/10ths of a second off her 200m life time best clocking 26.8. This left her lying second overnight.

Sunday started with 5m in the long jump and a javelin personal best of 22.53m with just the last event the 800m to go Livvy was lying in 3rd place. Never one to duck a challenge Livvy finished with another personal best of 2:33.6 which proved enough to overtake her rivals finishing on 4123 points beating one of the oldest Lewes club records by 422 points

The Sussex Intermediate girl’s team now all travel to the English Schools finals at Birmingham in September as favourites. The Sussex team having finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the SE regional championships.

Polly Saunders the second of the Lewes AC athletes competing for Sussex in the Junior Girls team started well on Sunday with a PB in the 75m Hurdles of 12.6. This was followed by a further PB in the second event the shot. In the high jump Polly then picked up a foot injury which left her with a jump of only 1.27m and then a below par 4.34m in the long jump. The injury meant Polly having to pull out of in the 800m.
