Lewes AC – Sussex Sunday Cross Country League Champions
In the last race of the six race series at Pett Lewes AC became league Champions. Up against 11 other clubs in this hotly contested series of races the league win for Lewes is a tribute to all those that turned out to race and to represent the club.
A combined team of 20 men and women across a number of age categories is required to make up a scoring team at each of the races. Throughout the season and despite the weather a total of 63 club members turned out to score for the team and also to get individual points in the various age group categories.
In addition to winning the league there were some superb individual wins with John Lowden picking up the gold medal prize for the over 50 man category. Also finishing in gold medal positions were Anita Amies in the over 55 women’s category a prize that Anita also won last year, Sally Norris in the Senior Women category and John Coleman in the over 65 men age group. All through the season John had a hard battle with Alf Pollard also from Lewes and it was only after the last race at Pett that John secured the golden prize with Alf finishing in the silver medal position. Also in silver medal position was Bob Hughes finishing second in the over 60 men category.
