Lewes AC success at the Hastings Half Marathon

28 Lewes AC athletes travelled across to Hastings over the weekend to compete in the tough and hilly Hastings Half Marathon and came back with some amazing results. The first to mention must be David Bradford who finished 13 overall and 5th Sussex runner out of a field of 3,300 runners with a time of 1hr15mins. It is perhaps also worth mentioning that in 2005 David, in the same race, finished in 648th position in a time of 1hr39min a major improvement since then of over a minute a mile and 635 positions. A fantastic achievement

Other Lewes AC runners to add to the success story are Alan Jackson and Chris Gilbert. Alan aiming for a good run in the London Marathon completed the Hastings Half in 1hr 24mins in 46th position overall and 7th in the 45-49 men’s category. In 2010 Allan finished in 435th position in 1hr 36mins again a massive improvement. Chris in his first half marathon was looking to break one and a half hours and not only broke this time but finished in 40th position overall in a time of 1hr 22mins and 8th in his age category; an incredible achievement.

Another amazing success story and an unofficial world record was Mike Ellicocks run of 1hr 34mins carrying a 40lb pack. Mike is going for the world record time for a runner carrying a 40lb pack in the London Marathon so all is looking good for this challenge so watch this space.

Another great individual performance was by Simon Thomas who finished in 130th overall and 5th in the over 50 age category in a time of 1hr 29mins. In the 60-64 age category Simon Goodman came 12th in this category in 1hr 48mins and David Feintuck 23rd in 1hr 57mins.

To round off a very successful day for Lewes AC runners the club won the silver medal in the men’s team race just behind Hastings AC the home club. The team were David Bradford (13th – 1hr 15mins) Matt Bradford (19th – 1hr 16mins) Chris Gilbert (40th – 1hr.22mins) Allan Jackson (46th – 1hr 24mins)
