Lewes AC athletes have great results at the Brighton 10K and the Sussex Road Race Challenge

43 club members took up the challenge to run with 3,200 other runners in the Brighton 10K race along the Brighton and Hove seafront. On a perfect day for running there were some great individual and team results for Lewes AC with 21 personal best times. Best of the bunch must be the women’s team with a stand out performance that won the team prize against clubs that ranged from across the south of England and beyond. The men’s team whilst beating all but two of the Sussex clubs narrowly missed getting the bronze medal by being edged out by a team from Dartford Harriers.

Leading the women’s team to their gold medal finish was Joscelin Lowden who finished with a time of 38mins 38sec for the six and a quarter mile race. Close behind in a time of 39.06 was Emma Roberson followed by Lara Barozzuol with a time of 39.12. Making up the winning team was Helen Sida who finished in 42.05 and was the 9th over 45 women to finish.

Leading the Lewes AC men at Brighton was Mat Bradford who had an excellent run to finish 18th overall and 5th Sussex runner in a time of 32mins 52secs. The next Lewes runners were Lewis Sida and David Bradford both finishing with a chip time of 34mins 17secs and 12th and 13th Sussex finishers. The next two Lewes runners were Chris Gilbert in a time of 35mins 09secs and 10th man aged over 40 and Andrew Masters close behind as 11th man over 40 with a time of 35mins 20secs a new personal best..

Not only did the Lewes AC men and women’s teams excel at Brighton but their combined performance in the race meant that Lewes AC won the 2014 Sussex Road Race Challenge sponsored by Harvey Curtis. This competition is based on the best team results from three of four Sussex races. The joint Lewes AC team was not only first at the Brighton 10K but was also first at the Bexhill 10K and the Barns Green Half Marathon.

Jonathon Burrell competing in the men aged over 50 category not only broke the 37min barrier with a new personal best of 36.51 but was also the 5th over 50 man to finish in the race. Also having a great race and winning her age category was Karin Divall who was first over 55 women in the race with a time of 43.57.

To finish in the top 10% in the Brighton 10 is a great performance and in addition to those mentioned above the following men and women broke the 10% barrier. Finishing in the top hundred were Jamie Sedden (36.15) and Lee Woodgate (36.55). Also in the top 10% were Colin Bennett (37.43); Chris Hunt (38.13); Allan Jackson (38.18); Mark Cage (38.35); Gus Iriate (40.11); Mike Green (40.15); Lizzie Keep (42.32); Sarah Godley (42.28) and Megan Taylor (42.52)
