Inter-County Cross Country Championships medals for Lewes AC athletes

Securing the best ever results for the County of Sussex at the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships at Cofton Park in Birmingham on Saturday 10th March two Lewes AC runners were in medal winning teams. Up against 40 other Counties and across all age groups the Sussex under 17 women’s team of four won team silver and the Sussex under 20 men’s team of four won team bronze.

Maddy Smith from Lewes AC was the fourth scoring runner in the Sussex under 17 women’s team finishing in an extremely creditable 53rd place against stiff competition from other County runners. Finishing as Maddy did helped Sussex beat Warwickshire to the Silver medal by just one point.

Also making up the scoring four in the under 20 men’s team. Ludo Goodliffe had a great run to help the team win team bronze also finishing in 53rd position.

With two runners from Lewes AC in the two medal winning teams is a tremendous achievement by both runners but also to their coach Dave Leach who has helped them develop their potential. Both Maddy and Ludo have made the qualifying times to run in the Sussex Teams at the English Schools Cross Country Championships.

There were also some great performances by other Lewes Ac athletes at the Inter Counties Championships. Aidan Briffett was the second scoring athlete in the Sussex under13 team in 90th position with Sam Rogers coming in as the 4th scoring runner in 163rd position with the team finishing in 23rd overall.

Angel Collins in only her third race after returning from injury was the second scoring runner in the Sussex under 20 women’s team finishing in 60th position with the team finishing in 13th position.

In the senior women’s team Catlin Lloyd finished in 98th position helping the team to finish in 7th position the best result for this age group as long as can be remembered (at least 14 years)

With six Lewes AC athletes picked to represent Sussex all athletes scored for their teams a really impressive result on the national stage.
