Hastings Half Marathon – Great performances

The endurance runners in the club had a great day at the Hastings Half Marathon securing third place for senior men’s team and a hat full of personal bests and age group wins and high placings. In a race that had 3,600 finishers Lewes AC had 20 runners taking part with three Lewes runners finishing in the top 20. First Lewes AC runner was David Bradford (SM) in 8th position in a time of 62min 53secs. Second Lewes runner was Robbie James (M40+) in 10th position in a time of 63mins 22secs. Robbie also picked up the prize for being the first over 40 man. Third Lewes runner was Tom Morris in 19th position in a time of 66mins 14sec. All three together with Simon Thomas in 106th position made up the senior men’s team which came third behind Hastings and Tonbridge.

In the men over 50 category Simon Thomas finished in 106th position in a time of 88mins 02sec and 5th in his age category. Simon was closely followed by Neil Gower in 6th position in the same age group coming in 110th overall in a time of 88mins 26secs.

Other Lewes runners doing well in their age group categories were Alf Pollard who finished second in the 70+ age category in a time of 115mins 34secs and 1402nd position overall and Andrew Chitty who finished 8th in the 55+ age group in a time of 96mins 48secs and 338th overall.

Other Lewes AC runners doing well and breaking their personal bests for the half marathon were Dominic Osman-Allu who impressively broke his life time best by 13 minutes when finishing in 94mins 53sec in 275th position. Mauro Lazzati broke his PB by 7 minutes finishing in 394th position in a time of 98mins 17secs as did Becky Martin when she finished in a time of 2hrs 17mins 17sec.

Colin Bennett was 2 minutes quicker than his previous best finishing in 192nd in a time of 92mins 04secs and Matt Button was over one minute quicker finishing in 294th position in a time of 95mins 20secs. Also one minute quicker than ever before was Sue Juncal when finishing in 2hrs 10mins 41secs.

Other Lewes runners finishing in the Hastings Half Marathon were Matt Homewood (189th) 91mins 59secs: Neil Baker (242nd) 93mins 38sec: David Foster (1191st) 112mins 47sec: Suzanne Holliman (1446th) 116mins 05secs: Charlotte Chapman (1673rd) 119mins 21sec: Andrea Campbell (2156th) 2hrs 07mins 30sec: Pauline Smart (2522nd) 2hrs 14mins 20secs:

In the supporting Hastings Junior Race over 2.5km for boys aged 13 and 14 Sam Rogers came 4th in a time of 6mins 50secs. In the previous day Sam had helped the Sussex team come third in the Inter County Schools Cross Country race at Bexhill finishing 25th overall and 4th Sussex runner. Jasper Baker in the year 7 boy’s race finished in 42nd position was the 4th Sussex runner and helped the Sussex team to 5th position.
