Great results for Lewes AC runners at the Plumpton Cross Country Race

Not content with winning the team gold medal in the Brighton 10K the Lewes AC women’s team are now top of their division after two races of four in the Brooks sponsored Sussex Cross Country League. Leading the team at Brighton and in the cross country league is Joscelin Lowden who came a magnificent third at the Plumpton event. Close behind came Nia Hall in 8th position followed by Lara Barazzuol in 11th and making up the scoring team of four was Helen Sida in 23rd position.

Not only did Nia have a great result in the race and make a great contribution to the Lewes AC team she was also was the 3rd under 17 women to finish as the under 17s race was run as part of the main women’s race.

Only slightly in the shadow of the Lewes AC women’s team are the men’s team who are currently lying a close second overall in the Sussex league behind Brighton and Hove AC. At the Plumpton race the men’s team of David Bradford (7th) Patrick Hough (10th) Mat Bradford (16th) Chris Gilbert (17th) and Lewis Sida (20th) made up the A team’s scoring six. The Lewes B team also had a great run finishing second in the race to give them first position in their league after two races of the four. The successful B team were Robbie James (24th) Andrew Masters (34th) Jamie Sneddon (35th) and Mat Brass (36th)

With the current strength of the Lewes AC adult endurance runners has meant that the club has won the 2014 Sussex Road Race Challenge sponsored by Harvey Curtis. This competition is based on the best men and women’s team results from three of four Sussex road races. The joint Lewes AC team was not only first at the Brighton 10K but was also first at the Bexhill 10K and the Barns Green Half Marathon.

Moving down the age groups the Lewes AC under17 men continue to dominate the Sussex cross country league. At the first event at Goodwood they claimed first and third team positions and repeated this result at Plumpton. They now lead the league after 2 races with the B team in third position. Aiden Briffett lead the team at Plumpton in third spot backed up by Tom Stone (7th) Sam Jackson (9th) Sam Rogers (11th) James Martin (13th) Toby Baker (14th) and Harry Strong (22nd)

The under 15 boys are also running particularly well with Ben Martin winning his age group race at Plumpton. With Jasper Baker (11th) Joey Webbon (24th) and Alex Monson (38th) this gave the team 3rd spot in the race and 4th in the league after 2 of the 4 races

The under 13 boys are also doing particularly well and are leading their league after two events. At the Plumpton event Leo Brewer had a fine run to finish in third spot backed up by Jay Atkins (12th) Will Carey (16th) to give the A team third position in the race to consolidate their leading position in the league. The B team of Sam Horn (25th) Tom Nettleton (33rd) and Atticus Mohapi-Dobouny (34th) gave them 10th position in the race and 10th in the league.

The under 13 girls team of Rosie Gainsford (5th) Eva Johnson-Ellis (15th) and Florence Brook (23rd) secured 4th place in their race. This was the same team position achieved by the under 15 girl’s team of Ella Munday (8th) Anya Tamplin (13th) and Milly Forman (21st)
