Gold medal earned by Karin at Cross Country Champs
At the Sussex Cross Country Championships for runners in the Masters age groups Karin Divall earned her gold medal the hard way. Despite falling in the very muddy and hilly 4 mile course Karin maintained her first position in the women aged over 55 category.
Supporting Karin in the medal chase the Lewes AC men’s team of over 40 athletes came away with a well- earned silver medal. Leading the four man team over the 6 mile course was Chris Gilbert in 6th position with Andrew McLennon 17thRobert Cooper 21stand Robbie James making a welcomed return to competition in 22nd place.
Joining the over 40 men in the medal winning stakes was the Lewes AC men over 50 team. Led by Colin Bennett in 5th position over the 5 mile course he was supported by a flu recovering Jonathon Burrell in 11th place and Dominic Osman-Allu in 16th position. Just missing making the scoring team by 7 seconds was Ian Fines who finished just behind Dominic in 17th position.
The Lewes AC over 35 women’s team narrowing missed a team medal by just 3 points. In the silver and bronze medal positions were the teams of Crawley AC and Hailsham Harriers both on 27 points with Lewes scoring 30. So near yet so far. The team was led by Emma Rollings in 6th place with Sarah Godley in 10th place and Kathrine McCorry in 14th place.
Also running in the women’s race but in different age groups were Helen Sida who finished 9th overall and the 4th women over 45 with Jo Miles finishing the 10th in the same age group. Anne Hagan finished in 10th position in the women aged over 55.
