Forest Trails and Muddy Thrills: LAC at the Tilgate 5-Mile Fun Run

Sunday 8th September 2024: A team of six from LAC participated in the 2024 Tilgate 5-Mile race, part of the West Sussex Fun Run League (WSFRL) and hosted by the Saints and Sinners Crawley Running Club.
The picturesque undulating 5-mile route led our runners through Tilgate Forest, winding beneath a canopy of mixed conifers and broadleaf trees.
The race provided a multi-sensory experience encompassing soft earth, scattered leaves, occasionally exposed roots underfoot, gravel and clay, demanding full attention.
The terrain, laced with wet and muddy stretches that squelched underfoot, added a layer of complexity, turning the course into a test of balance and agility. Sliding on mud was all part of the fun, with runners supporting one another as they navigated the slick paths.
Throughout the race, sunlight filtered through the trees, creating dappled patches of light and ever-shifting shadows on the forest floor.
Runners breathed in fresh, crisp air, with the earthy aroma of conifers adding to the sensory enjoyment of the day.
The atmosphere was camaraderie, with participants from various clubs exchanging words of encouragement.
Cheerful marshals, clad in the signature yellow of the Saints and Sinners, further enhanced the community spirit. Some even donned fancy dress, bringing a light-hearted touch to the event while guiding runners along the trail and providing much-needed guidance on the trickier sections of the course.
