Brighton Half Marathon a family affair
Leading the 15 Lewes AC runners in the Brighton Half marathon on Sunday was the family duo of Lewis and Helen Sida. With over 7,700 finishers in the race Lewis had a fantastic race to finish 23rd overall in a time of 75mins 01sec. This not only gave him a life time best by nearly 3 minutes but also placed him 5th in the men aged over 40 category.
Not to be outdone his wife Helen also improved her personal best time by 5 minutes when finishing the race in 91mins 15sec which placed her 14th in the women over 40 age category.
Also having a great run was Jonathon Burrell who was competing in the men over 50 category where he finished 4th in a time of 81mins 36secs. This placed him 83rd in the race overall. Also in the over 50 category was Nick Parrish who finished 64th in this age group and 655th overall in a time of 95mins 30secs.
A lone Lewes runner competed in the senior men’s category where Jamie Seddon was placed 46th in his age category and 58th overall in a time of 79mins.07secs.
There was a gaggle of other Lewes AC men in the men aged over 40 category and leading this group was Mark Cage who was 107th overall and 22nd man over 40 in a time of 82mins 52secs. Not far behind was Allan Jackson 112th overall and 23rd man over 40 with a time of 82mins 58secs. Lee Woodgate 26th was next Lewes AC running in this age group with a time of 83mins 34secs followed by Alan Velecky in 46th position in a time of 85mins 08secs.
Following Helen in the women’s race was Sarah Healy who was 87th in her age category and 883rd overall in a time of 98mins 25secs. This was a personal best by nearly 4mins and the first time that Sarah has run under 1 hour 40mins for the half marathon. Helen Bowman also had a major improvement in her personal best time by finishing 7 minutes quicker than ever before in the women over 40 age group with a time of 1 hour 51mins 04secs in 180th place. With an even better improvement in her PB was Fran Witt who improved her time by nearly 11mins with a time of 1hour 53mins 42secs and the first time under 2 hours.
Liz Hilton also secured a new PB by over 4 minutes with a time of 1hour 52secs 17secs followed by Sue Juncal finishing in 1.56.54 and Julia Langram in 2.21.41.
Of the 15 Lewes AC runners in the race 11 improved their life time bests by an average margin of nearly four minutes.
