Another winning weekend for Lewes AC
Building on the success that the club had at the Brighton 10K and at the Plumpton cross country event the club continued its winning ways at the Crowborough 10K and at the junior indoor athletics league event at Worthing on Sunday 2nd December.
At the tough Crowborough 10k race on Sunday with 386 competitors there were 22 Lewes AC runners. In second and third positions in the race were the Bradford brothers with David just in front of Matt finishing in a time of 35.00mins to Matt’s 35.42. Next Lewes AC runner across the line was Robbie James in a time of 37.11 a position that also won him 3rd prize in the over 40 age group category.
Not only were these great individual performances by Lewes AC runners but these individual successes with Alan Jackson who finished in 31st position in 40.30 meant the club won the men’s team prize to add to the collection of silver ware.
Other individual prize winners in the race were Simon Thomas winning the men’s over 50 category with a time of 41.48 finishing in 39th position overall. Bob Hughes second in the men over 60 category in a time of 50.44 in 191st position and karin Divall winning the women’s over 45 age category in a time of 48.05 finishing 139th
The Crowborough Race was the last in a series of 10K races across Sussex that formed the 2012 Sussex 10K Challenge. The successes at Crowborough and at previous 10K races by Lewes runners has meant Lewes AC has won the Sussex 10K Challenge beating Brighton AC and all other 38 Sussex clubs.
Not to be outdone by the seniors the juniors of the club also had a winning day at Worthing. Competing against Chichester, Steyning, Phoenix and Worthing clubs in the Indoor Athletics League the under 11 and under 13 Lewes AC boys and girls won the match by a wide margin.
Finally on the same morning, and to add to the winning streak, Sally Norris had a fantastic race in the inaugural Downland Devil 9 Mile race at Lancing, and was first lady overall.
