A win for Lewes AC at Warren Hill cross country
On a rare sunny day on the hills outside Eastbourne Lewes AC secured an impressive team win at the Warren Hill cross country race. Despite the challenging nature of the five mile course there were four Lewes AC runners in first nine places in the race. The Bradford brothers of David and Matt came second and third with David just edging ahead by 10 seconds to take second place from his brother with times of 27.39mins and 27.49mins respectively.
Taking 6th position in the race and the third Lewes runner was the rapidly improving Andrew Masters in a time of 29.11mins.
In ninth position overall and the first over 50 runner and fourth scoring team member for Lewes was John Lowden in 29.56mins.
The first Lewes AC woman runner scoring for the team was Sally Norris who was 61st overall and the third senior women in a time of 34.26mins. The second Lewes AC women was Karin Divall who was 90th overall and 4th woman runner over 45 in a time of 36.39mins.
The star women runner and Lewes AC’s secret weapon that helped secure the win over Hailsham Harriers was Anita Amies who by scoring great points in the over 55 age group category edged Lewes ahead of Hailsham by just 12 points.
Lewes AC having won this, the second race of a six race series, now lie jointly first with Hailsham Harriers both with 3 points each club with a second and a win. An exciting and closely fought further four races are now in prospect.
