300 runners in Lewes Downland Runs
There were over 300 runners competing in the Lewes Athletic Club’s 10 mile and 5 mile Downland Runs on Sunday 7th October 2012.
The best result for Lewes runners was in the 5 mile race where club members took four places out of the first six. The top spot was taken by Stephen Ferroni from the Brighton Club closely followed by Lewes runners Aiden Briffett in 2nd in 29mins 57secs: Ben Pepler 3rd (30.04) Tim Calliafas 4th (30.29) and Tom Kerns 6th (31.19)
The first Lewes women in this race and second woman overall was Katherine Emery in 12th position in a time of 35mins 16sec followed by Eve Rothwell as 3rd women in 19th position overall (37.01) and Ruby Whyte-Wilding as 5th women in 24th position in a time of 37.56. The first man in the 5 mile race from AS Marolles the French club twinned with Lewes AC was Antoine Naudin in 22nd position in a time of 37mins 40secs and the first French women was Beattice Morin in 45th position in a time of 41mins 54secs.
In the 10 mile race Mike Ellicock finished in bronze medal position in a time of 64mins 19secs followed by Andrew Masters in 10th position in a time of 67mins 10secs. The third Lewes runner home was Matthew Button in a time of 71mins o2secs. Sally Norris was the first Lewes AC women runner home in 81st position in a time of 78mins 47secs. This put Sally in 4th position in the Senior Women category. Beth Gascoyne was the second Lewes AC runner home in 104th position overall in a time of 83mins 25secs and 6th in the Senior woman category.
Over all there was a good turn out from Lewes runners with 52 members competing in both races and 10 runners from AS Marolles.
