Tight at the top for Lewes AC runners in the Sussex Cross Country League

In the Sussex Cross Country League the Lewes AC women’s team won the third match of four held at Lancing Manor. This win puts the Lewes team joint top with Arena 80 both teams having 205 points. With the last match of the four taking place at Stanmer Park in February the gold medal will be decided at this race.

In winning the Lancing race the Lewes team scored 46 points with Hailsham Harriers second with 71 points and Arena 80 72 points. The scoring Lewes team members were Izzy Coomber (2nd); Rachel Phelps (7th); Gina Wilson (8th) and Emma Rollings (29th)

It is equally tight at the top of the men’s League with the Lewes AC men’s team coming third in the Lancing match with 114 points behind Haywards Heath Harriers and Brighton and Hove City AC. This third place puts the Lewes men’s team in second place in division one with all to play for at the last match at Stanmer Park. With six men to score for the team the places were Calum Upton (6th); Matt Bradford (7th); Jack Lockwood (13th); Lewis Sida (16); David Bradford (33rd) and Chris Gilbert (39th)

The men’s B team came third in the Lancing match a score that keeps them leading the third division after three matches. Scoring for the Lewes B team were Jonathon Burrell (46th); Colin Bennett (49); Lee Woodgate (52nd); Robert Cooper (59th) and Chris Coffey (61st)

Scoring for the Lewes C team were Chris Coffey (61st); Will Monnington (68th); Harry Strong (75th) and Ed Kentish-Barnes (109), These scores places the C team 5th in the 3rd Division with one race to go.

Also in a fierce battle for a gold medal place is Atticus Mohapi-Dobouny who was narrowly beaten into second place at the Lancing match. In an extremely tight tussle at head of the under 15 boys race it wasn’t until the very last metre that Liam Dunne from Chichester stuck his chest out to gain the win over Atticus by just one second. It is now down to the last match at Stanmer Park to decide who gets the gold medal as both athletes have one win and one second place each.

The under 15 boys team are also in line for a podium place at the last race. Their 4th place in the Lancing match places them in the silver medal position behind Crawley with just one match to go. The team and their individual places were Atticus Mohapi-Dobouny (2nd); Aaron Duncan (23rd) and Sam Horn (25th)
