Lewes AC runners score at the Sussex 10K Championships
Organised by the Brighton Phoenix Club over 600 runners from across the region took part in the 10K race along the Brighton Seafront on Wednesday 13th July.
This event also doubled up as the Sussex 10K Road Race Championships. It was a massive success for the 27 Lewes runners that took part with 15 Lewes runners running life time bests and coming away with 8 individual, team and championship medals.
The Lewes men’s team won the overall open team event where 4 runners were needed to score for the team. Leading the team in 4th place overall in the race in a time of 32mins 19sec was Ben Savill was closely followed by Matt Bradford in 5th place (32.21); Lewis Sida 12th (33.44) and Josh Burgess 24th (34.52): In the Sussex Championship where different criteria apply the Lewes team of Matt Bradford, Lewes Sida and Josh Burgess won the Bronze medal just missing out on the silver medal despite having the same score of 32 as the silver medal winning team.
More impressive were the Lewes AC women where the Lewes team won both the open event and also the team gold medal in the Sussex Championship. Izzy Coomber had a fantastic race to claim the individual sliver medal in a time of 35mins 47secs. Also coming second in the women aged over 35 category and with a new personal best was Emma Rollings in a time of 37.27. Making up the winning women’s team of three was Maria Barrow who was the 3rd senior women to finish in a time of 39.41 which was over two and a half minutes better than her previous personal best time.
As well as scooping up the team awards the Lewes runners also won a bundle of other individual age group medals. Lewis Sida as well as contributing to the team success also won the Championship silver medal for the men aged between 40 and 49. Moving up an age group Jonathon Burrell won the championship bronze for men aged between 50 and 59. (36.28) Not to be outdone by the older men Helen Sida came third in the women aged between 45 and 54 with a time of 40.22 and Anita Amies also won the bronze medal for the women aged over 60 (51.53)
Also improving his life time best time for a 10K race was Mark Cage who finished in 26th place in a time of 35.00 which was 2mins 40secs better than he ran at Chichester in February.
Other significant performances and their age group places were Chris Gilbert 27th overall and 7th man over 40 (36.06); John Stoddart 28th overall (35.08); Colin Bennett 5th man over 50 (37.22); Rashaad Shabab 85th overall (38.19); Mike Green 104th (38.52); Ed Tuckley 105th overall (38.52); Ian Fines 10th man over 50 (40.13); Lee Chapman 145th (40.22); Tony Deacon 206th overall (42.46); Aaron Barnard (42.43); Alice Gleadow 220th (43.20); Dominic Osman-Allu 222nd (43.23); David Foster 243rd (43.50); Mark Wilson 247th (44.07); Emma Shepherd 14th senior woman and 266th overall (44.31); Jane Boyes 366th (47.36):
