Brighton Seafront Sparkles with Red and Gold at Phoenix 10k

Speed and Spirit: LAC Celebrates Achievements at Phoenix 10k

Congratulations to all 38 runners who participated in the 2024 Phoenix 10k last week!

The Phoenix 10k is a fixture of the Sussex Road Running Grand Prix, which comprises 12 events featuring individual and team competitions.

The event organisers treated runners to an out-and-back route renowned for its speed.

The course stretches west towards Shoreham along the promenade, passing Hove Lagoon and continuing on Basin Road South. The 5km mark is at Carats Café, a turning point that leads back to the finish line at Hove Lawns.

Seeing so many red and gold vests on the Brighton seafront was wonderful.

LAC had lots of great performances and plenty of PBs.

Congratulations to Ruby Whyte, Jenna French, and Emily Proto for finishing 4th, 6th, and 9th in the women’s race.

Ellen Brookes secured 1st place in the V40 women’s category, while Josh Burgess placed 6th overall.

Ian Fines placed third in the V60 category, and Andrew Chitty and Bob Hughes claimed second and third in the V70 category, respectively.

But that’s not all. We’re delighted to report that the Lewes AC women’s team came first!

What your participation in this event means for Lewes AC

“The good Lewes AC turnout meant we came second with 185 points after Brighton Phoenix Athletics and Triathlon Club, who had a home advantage,” says Bob Hughes. “Our previous best ranking is 13th.”

Thank you to everyone who participated, captured the moments in photos, and joined us for post-race drinks and fish and chips. Your enthusiasm and support were the heart of the event, making it truly special!

The next Sussex Grand Prix event is the Hellingly 10K, which takes place on Sunday 22nd September. The course takes you on a beautiful, undulating, rural route, which follows country roads and lanes around the village of Hellingly in East Sussex.. Check out our calendar for all Sussex Grand Prix Events. For more information about joining this individual and team competition, talk to Bob Hughes, our Sussex Grand Prix representative.
