Lewes AC lose their 100% winning record

Having won the first three East Sussex Sunday Cross Country League races Lewes AC were going for their fourth win at Pett Village on Sunday. However a win was not to be as the team of Hailsham Harriers beat the Lewes AC team by just 3 points. With a score of 675 points the Hailsham team came first just beating the Lewes team with a score of 678 points.

With two more races still to take place to complete the cross country series Lewes AC still remain favourites to win the league. The competition for the honour to win the league outright is now between Hailsham Harriers and Lewes AC. The Hailsham club, following their win now have 8 league points and Lewes AC 5 leagues points.

Despite the loss of the team’s 100% record at Pett there were still some great individual performances. Leading the charge for Lewes AC men was Jonathon Burrell who not only was first Lewes AC finisher in 6th place overall but was also the first over 50 man in the race. Backing up Jonathon in team scoring positions was Mike Green (15th); Ed Tuckley (18th); Colin Bennett (22nd) and Gustavo Iriarte (26th)

Peter Kennedy in 93rd position was second man over 60 to finish with Bob Hughes close behind in 95th position the first man over 65 in the race.

As the team is made up of both men and women Helen Sida yet again had a great run for the team to finish in 48th position overall and the third woman aged over 45. Close behind Helen in 53rd position was Sally Norris who was making a very welcome return to racing. Others in scoring positions for the club were Maria Barrow (64th) and Carole Walters (96th): Karin Divall who in 92nd place also claimed first position in the women over 55 age category.
