First and two thirds for Lewes AC runners in the Lewes DownLand Race

With over 300 runners taking part in the club’s Downland races organised by Lewes AC it was the club’s own runners that won the men’s team prize and took the bronze medals in the men and women categories.

The tough ten mile race was run in beautiful autumn sunshine and crossed the summits of Black Cap and Mount Harry and climbed up through the valley of Ashcombe Bottom.

Overcoming the terrain the winner Philip Hardaway from Haywards Heath completed the course in 62mins 34secs. Close behind in third position was Lewes AC Mike Ellicott in a time of 65mins 01secs. Mike an ex paratrooper is the proud holder of the world record for the fastest time in a marathon carrying a 18kg back pack. Competing in the London Marathon Mike finished in the race in 3 hours 25mins 21sec a truly world beating time.
