Herstmonceux Relays – Seconds Galore
There was great and exciting racing at the Herstmonceux Castle Relays last week. With teams of four each running a leg of something over 1.5miles the Lewes AC men’s A team was just second behind a strong Hastings AC team. The Hastings team completed the four laps in 29mins.22secs with the Lewes team under 30 seconds behind in 29mins 49secs.
Josh Burgess ran the fastest leg for the Lewes team in 7mins 04secs which was also the second fastest leg of the whole evening. The other team members were Dave Bradford in 7mins.33secs, Matt Bradford in 7mins 22secs and Ben Pepler with a run of 7mins 50secs.
Lewes AC second men’s team followed the A team in and were the third senior men’s team home with a combined time of 31mins 44secs. Toby Baker ran 7.54: Sam Rogers 7.56: harry Strong 7.54: and James Martin 8.00.
Also finishing in second place behind a Hastings ladies team were the Lewes AC ladies team in a time of 36minutes 12seconds. The individual times were Gina Wilson 8.54: Amy Davila 9.14: Ruby Whyte-Wilding 9.05: and Caitlin Lloyd 9.00: The Lewes Ladies B team finished in a time of 40mins 28secs with Evie Rothwell 10.22: Lizzie Keep 9.05: Katherine Emery 9.44: and Helen Boloram 11.17: Just behind the Lewes Ladies B team were the Lewes Vet Ladies in a non scoring time of 42.00mins.
On the same evening as the relays Lewes AC had 15 runners competing in the Highdown Hike a tough event that is part of the West Sussex Fun Run League. The group scored an excellent 71 points, which further consolidated the Club’s 7th position in the league.
