Yet another winning weekend at Bexhill Cross Country
At the weekend over 50 Lewes AC runners turned out for the Cross Country League races at Bexhill on Saturday 15th December. Again it was a winning weekend for the club with many team and individual first places and high scoring positions.
The senior men’s teams continued their winning ways with the A team again winning the second division of the league and now look guaranteed for promotion to the first division next season. If Lewes AC had been in division one this year then a team of the top 6 Lewes AC men would have come 3rd at Bexhill putting the team in 2nd place overall. With over 160 runners in the race David Bradford’s 11th position was a great run and Robbie James in 14th position overall meant that he secured the first man over 40 prize. Not to be outdone the B team whilst coming third in the third division at Bexhill are still in first place overall in their division with the C team in third position. In all Lewes AC fielded 22 runners in the Senior, Veteran and under 20 men’s race.
The women’s senior A team also came first in their division at Bexhill and are also first team overall after three matches. In the women’s race Maddy Smith and Sally Norris came 11th and 14th respectively with Maddy in her first cross country race of the season claiming the 3rd U20 woman’s place. Other Lewes AC runners were Faith Daughtery(34th) Katherine Emery(40th) Evie Rothwell (42nd and 6th u17) Karin Divall (47th) Lizzie Keep(51st) Amy Davila(54th and 7th u17) and Andrea Ingram(70th)
In the races for the junior athletes there were also some really good performances. Pride of place must go to the two youngest of Lewes AC runners. In the under 11 race Ben Walters provided the first winner of the day as did Aiden Briffett later in the under 15 race. Aiden’s win helped the under 15 boys team secure third position at Bexhill and to cement their first position in the league with one more match to go. Aiden was well supported by Harry Strong(10th) Sam Jackson(13th) James Martin(14th) and Connor Sullivan(15th) Less well supported was Patrick McManus who ran a lonely race to finish in 15th position in the under 17 men’s race.
In the under 13 boys race Ben Martin had a great run to finish in 3rd position to help the team to 4th place in the league with one race to go. Ben was well supported in Jasper Baker (12th) Alwyn Watson(31st) Jay Atkins(35th) and Lewis Dean(38th) The under 13 girls team finished in 5th position with Grace Brock(15th) Rosie Gainsford(18th)Alessia Manco(19th) and Ella Munday(24th) In the under 15 girls race Ruby Whyte-Wilding in her first cross country race for some time had a great run to finish 10th with Nia Hall finishing just behind in 11th position.
At the other end of the age spectrum the men’s Lewes AC veteran A team came in 4th at Bexhill which meant that they dropped from first to second overall in the league. With one more match to go at Lancing there is clearly all to play for.
Finally a result from the other side of the world, Caitlin Lloyd currently in New Zealand
