Sussex County Cross Country League – Individual & Team Medals
Over four hotly contested matches in the Sussex County Cross Country League Lewes AC athletes and teams came away with an impressive array of individual and team medals. With the matches taking place from September last year to this February Lewes AC had nine athletes in the top three places across seven different age groups and seven team medals across the same range of age groups.
Competing for the first time in the girls Under 11 age group Bay Ellis won the individual bronze medal with Luca Grazzina winning the boys bronze medal in the same age group.
Moving up the age group to the under 17 men it was a clean sweep of individual and team medals for the Lewes athletes. Jonah Davis won the individual gold medal over the four matches with Atticus Mohapi-Dobouny the silver and Adam Dray the bronze. These impressive results meant the team gold medal was theirs.
In the senior women’s category Megan Taylor won the individual gold medal. In the senior men’s competition Callum Upton claimed the individual bronze. Continuing to move up the age groups Matt Bradford won the silver medal in the men aged over 40 category and Jonathon Burrell a bronze medal in the men aged over 50 competition
The first of the team medals was a well-earned silver medal by the boys competing in the Under 13 age group. In the same age group the Under 13 girls team came away after the four League matches with a team bronze.
Another team silver medal was won by the Under 15 Boys team. The Under 15 Girls team competed very well but came just outside the medal position with fourth place.
It is in the Under 17 men that the Lewes team showed a clean pair of spikes to other clubs. Not only did team members fill the first three individual medal places but the team won the gold medal.
Not to be outdone by the junior members of the club the senior and veteran men and women and teams did the club proud. In division two of the league the senior women’s team won the bronze medal. Equalling the women’s success the senior men’s team came away with a team bronze. At the top end of the competing age groups the men’s veteran team went one better than the senior men and won a team silver.
