Herstmonceaux Relays: Lewes AC two seconds and a fastest lap
Lewes AC relay teams had mixed fortunes at the Herstmonceaux Relays held on a sunny Wednesday evening last week. Both the senior men’s and women’s A teams came second in their categories with the other two teams well placed but further down the order.
The men’s A team of four runners came a close second to a strong Hastings AC team with a time of 31mins 23secs to Hastings 30mins 27secs. Josh Burgess led the Lewes team off and clocked the fastest time of the evening with a time for the lap of 7mins 06secs. Other team members were Pablo Ibarguren (8mins 11secs,) Tim Calliafas (8mins 13secs) and Matt Bradford (7mins 53secs.)
The Lewes AC B team put up a strong showing and completed the four laps in a time of 34mins 50secs to secure 7th place overall. The times of each of the B team runners were Simon Bomford (8mins 21secs) Ben Peplar (8mins 20secs) Sam Rogers (8mins 44secs) and Mat Homewood (9mins 25secs)
Coming second to the Hailsham Harriers women’s team the Lewes AC women’s A team completed the relay in an overall time of 37mins 52secs. Fastest was Maddie Smith who is shown in the picture taking over from Gina Wilson. Maddie’s time for the lap was 8mins 54secs. Evie Rothwell (9mins 42secs) Lizzie Keep (10mins 20secs) and Gina Wilson (8mins 56secs) The women’s A team is pictured after competing the relay standing in front of Herstmonceaux Castle.
The women’s B team completed the four laps of the relay in an overall time of 43mins. The times for each team member are Kathy Emery (9mins 45secs) Charlotte Chapman (11mins 18secs) Andrew Ingram (11mins 53secs) and Beth Gascoyne (10mins 04secs)
On the same evening some club members were competing at the track and field open meeting at Withdean Stadium. Rob Mullett came first in the 3000m in a speedy time of 8mins 12.45secs. Other good performances at Withdean were Aiden Briffett’s second place in the 800m under 15 race with a PB time of 2mins 14.16secs and Patrick McManus coming 7th in the senior men’s 800 with a time of 2mins 09secs also a personal best time.
At the Horsham track on Sunday Ben Martin was first in the mixed 1500m under 13 race in a PB time of 5mins 03.4secs closely followed by Jasper Baker in second position in a time of 5mins 28secs. In the same under 13 race Ella Mundy came 6th overall in a new PB time of 6mins 25.7 secs.
