Medals for Lewes AC at the Sussex Athletics Cross Country Championships
It was a great day for Lewes AC runners competing in the Sussex Championships on the 4th January 2020. The club came away with 5 team medals and two individual medals.
Starting the medal chase were the under 13 girls who in their race won the team silver medal with Esme Stephenson claiming the individual bronze medal. Grace Tuesday finished just behind in fourth place with Martha Weiskoff-Strange making up the team in 20th place. Darcy Pring came 26th and Madison Gregson 39th.
Also winning a silver medal was the under 15 boys’ team led by Archie Gubby finishing in fourth position. Stan Pendered and Charlie Wright completed the team of three. Other team members were Gabriel Penrose 15th, Max Gardener 31st, Henri Bedwell 32nd, Finlay Stonehouse 37th and Samual Deeprose 42nd.
The team of under 15 girls had a great run to claim the bronze medal. Sophie Nurse in 6th place led the team with Harriet Dray and Freya Hinds completing the team. Anthi Mamatzakis finished in 26th place
The team gold medal was won by the Lewes AC team of under 17 men with Adam Dray winning the individual gold. The winning team were Adam Dray, Atticus Mohapi-Dobouny and Joe Callard with Fenton Davoren finishing in 12th place.
At the end of the afternoon of running it was down to senior men to show their worth and did so by winning the team silver medal. This was a repeat position from the previous year and was great performance against all the clubs from across Sussex. Leading the charge was Ben Savill finishing just outside the individual bronze medal position in fourth place. Matt Bradford in 13th place, Callum Upton in 14th place, Toby Meanwell 18thChris Gilbert 26th and David Bradford in 35th place made up the silver medal winning team.
There were also some great individual runs by other Lewes AC members with Ben Pepler in 38th place, Adam Vaughan 39th and Lewis Sida 43rd. Charles Taylor competed well and finished 14th in the men under 20 race and Megan Taylor had a storming run to finish 12th in the senior women’s race.
