Rob Mullett gets GB Vest
Lewes AC’s Rob Mullett ran the 3,000m steeplechase at the Olympic Trials on Saturday, and finished third, in a time of 8.42.86.
This means Rob has been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Championships, in Helsinki, Finland, which begin this Wednesday – the 3,000SC heats take place on Wednesday, BBC red button 3.50pm.
Rob is the first Lewes AC athlete to earn a GB vest – a fantastic achievement and an inspiration to us all.
Now 24, Rob joined Lewes AC as a 12-year-old and has been a member ever since. He has attended St Mary’s (Twickenham] and Butler (Indiana, USA) universities.
Dave Leach: “I have been fortunate enough to have coached Rob since he started at the club although lately from a distance. I know most of the current members of the club may not know him that well, but I can assure you all he is a great role model for the younger athletes in the club.
“If you look on Rob’s Powerof10.info page, you will see he has improved every year, at one distance or another, even when he has had injuries – including a stress fracture to his lower back, three years ago; he still ran a PB for 1,500m that year. I am sure you will all join me in wishing him best wishes for this week, and if he runs as well as his best this year, he may still make it to the London Olympics.”
