Windy and cool Worthing 10K
No fewer than 22 Lewes AC athletes turned out on a cool, windy evening on Wednesday 6th June for the Worthing 10k.
Despite the challenging conditions, Lewes runners packed the top-10 and dominated the team contest. David Bradford finished fourth, in 34:22, 31 seconds clear of club-mate Robbie James in fifth, followed by Josh Burgess in sixth, who clocked 35:09.
The other Lewes AC finishers were: 19th Matt Bradford 37:44; 25th Clive Spicer 38:26; 59th Dan Ling 40:33; 63rd Tim Calliafas 41:04; 64th Nick Parrish 41:05; 74th Mauro Lazzati 41:16; 76th Matthew Button 41:25; 78th Mat Homewood 41:35; 82nd Simon Bomford 41:39; 94th Miles Seavill 42:23; 104th Neil Baker 42:36; 115th Andrew Chitty 43:16; 191st Dave Leach 46:03; 192nd Lizzie Keep 46:03; 198th Katherine Emery 46:10; 219th Matt Oades 46:57; 246th Karin Divall 48:13; 361st David Feintuck 53:43; and 368th Kate Seymour 54:22.
The unprecedented high level of Lewes AC participation at Worthing was thanks in part to the inception of an internal club contest: the club’s runners have been divided into three teams, headed by team captains David and Matt Bradford and Robbie James, complete with team names – David’s Diehards, Matt’s Movers and Robbie’s Rampagers – competing against one another in selected 10k races. The contest was set up to encourage competitiveness, motivate club-members to take part in races and to push themselves to get fitter and faster. Judging by the sea of red-and-yellow vests on display at Worthing, it’s proving highly successful so far.
