Medals Galore for Lewes AC at Sussex Championships

At the Sussex Track and Field Championships held at the K2 Stadium at Crawley over the weekend of 12/13th May Lewes AC athletes came away with 32 individual and team Championship medals. There were 8 gold medals, 12 silver and 12 bronze medals.

Those with gold medals included four gold medallists in the Pole Vault event. Sam Brown in the senior man’s category had the unique experience of tying for first place with a vault of 4.20m. In the U17M age group Bryce William-Watson cleared 3.50m, Remi MacDonald in the U20M age group vaulted 3.20m and Livvy Connor leapt 3.00m for the U15G gold medals. In fact in the U15 girls vault Lewes AC athletes took the first three positions with Vicky Warren winning the silver medal with 2.40m and Polly Saunders the bronze with 2.30m.

In the 300m race in the U15G age group Millie Cable ran 44.3secs to gain the gold medal and Angel Collins in the U20W age group ran 4mins 51.3secs to win the 1500m race. This took 12 seconds off on Angel’s personal best. Racing on Sunday in the 3,000m Angel won a silver medal with a time of 10mins 44.8 secs. In the U15G triple jump Livvy Connor won with a jump of 10.27m and Naomi Lee in the U17W hammer won with a throw of 33.92m

Of the silver medallists Rhys Camis in the U15B age group came away with two silver medals one in the 400m race with a time of 56.2secs and in the long jump with a leap of 4.80m. To these medals must be added his bronze medal won in the 200m with a time of 24.1secs.

Adding to Livvy Connor’s bag full of medals is the silver medal in the U15G 75m hurdles race in a time of 12.2secs and the two bronze medals won in the 100m completed in a time of 13.1secs and in the long jump with a leap of 4.50m. Also winning a silver medal were Sam Rogers in the U15B 800m in a time of 2mins 17.3secs and Emma Roberson in the senior women’s 800m with a time of 2mins 34.7secs. Further silver medals were won in the field events Ryan Fry U17M with 1.40m in the high jump Evan Carter U17M 11.02m in the triple jump and Claudette Povey in the SW pole vault with a vault of 2.20m. The U15G team won the silver medal in the 4x100m relay in a time of 53.9secs.

The bronze medal winners included Aiden Briffett in the U15B 800m completed in 2mins 17.5secs and Sam Rogers in the U15B 1500m completed in 4mins 44.4secs. In the U20W 1500m Maddie Smith won the bronze medal with a time of 5.mins 05.3secs. Continuing the good results for Lewes AC pole vaulters Luca Bish, as an U15B leapt 2.10m to secure the bronze medal as did Hannah MacDonald as an U17W with 2.80m. Connor Sullivan in the U20M triple jump leapt 9.70m and Aaron Guilford ran 11.5secs in the U20M 100m. To round of the collection of bronze medals the u15 girl’s team picked up the bronze medal in the 4x100m relay race.

In addition to all medals won at the Championship there were some near misses and good results by a large turn out of Lewes AC athletes. There were 6 Lewes athletes with a fourth place in 6 events. Connor Sullivan U15B 800m 2mins.21.5secs: Aiden Briffett U15B 1500m 4mins 50.2secs: Evan Carter U17M 400m hurdles 63.60secs: Aaron Guilford U20M 200m 23.0sces: Ludo Goodliffe U20M 800m 2.00.5secs and Ella James U17W 1.55m in the high Jump. Not to be out done Ella’s father set a personal best in the 5000m coming in fifth with a time of 15mins 29,5secs. Not bad for an ‘old un.’
