Vaulting to new heights
There were amazing performances by Lewes AC athletes over the last weekend with National, County and Club records achieved, many personal bests secured over a very busy few days for the club.
Pride of place must go to Livvy Connor with her performances in the biggest pole vault competition in the UK at the Carshalton Arena in Sutton which attracted 124 of the top vaulters in the UK. Livvy when clearing 3.34m increased her club record broke the Sussex under15 girls record and moved her to the top of the UK ranking. Livvy is now the only female athlete in the UK in any athletic event to be ranked above all her male age group counterparts.
In total eleven Lewes AC vaulters competed at Sutton and between them gained one Sussex record, three club records, eight life time bests and two indoor life time bests.
Jack Harris U13 Boy was the youngest competitor at just 10 managed two lifetime bests first at 2.04m and then 2.14m a new club record. Claudi Povey (U23W) vaulting with an injured back still managed a new indoor best of 2.24m which also is a new club record. Bill Saunders (U13Boy) cleared 1.84m for lifetime best and Polly Saunders in the U15 Girl competition cleared 2.34m again a lifetime best. Other life time bests achieved were James Shackleton (U17Men) 3.44m Remi Macdonald (U20M) 3.34m and Vicky Warren (U15G) 2.54m an indoor best
Hannah Macdonald (U17W) stunned her coach, due to a hand injury she had not picked up a pole in anger since November, she easily popped over 2.64m a new lifetime best. Sam Brown (U23M) cleared 4.34m and Emilie Blackwell (U20W) 3.24m
