English schools championships
Three first claim Lewes members and one second claim member travelled with the Sixty strong Sussex schools team to Gateshead to compete in the English schools championships.
Sam Bennett in the senior boys 800m had the hardest task coming back from illness, as luck had it that he was drawn in the third heat which was run at a fantastic pace 54 second first lap and won in 1.51 seconds better than the semi and final times.
Emilie Blackwell, Naomi Lee and Holly Turner all competed on Saturday morning in the Inter girls Pole Vault. With 18 other athletes they faced a six o clock breakfast call an eight fifteen call room time for the ten start time. Followed by a three and half hour competition.
Holly was first to be eliminated as the bar rose to 3.15m which would have been a new pb finsihing in 13th place. Naomi Lee after a huge clearance at 3.25m had then to pull out injured and finished in sixth place. Emilie managed a new club record 3.45m winning the Bronze medal just missing Silver on countback.
The Sussex Inter girls team also took the team prize a first for a Sussex schools team.
