|Anouska Fairhurst an under 15 athlete travelled to Loughborough University over the weekend to take part in a national competition for young javelin throwers.
In its sixth year the ‘UK Javelin Carnival’ is supported by British Athletics and draws athletes from across the UK and abroad to compete against each other. With new javelins on offer as prizes to the winners the competition is fierce and well attended.
Up against the best throwers in the country and in her first big competition Anouska led the field for a long time with a personal best throw and a Lewes AC club record of 39.44m.
This lead was not to last however as she was narrowly beaten into second place by just 5cm by the current UK number one who is a whole year older. Watch out for next year!
